Mechanical Engineering Apprentice Project:

Special-purpose vehicle developed for emptying chip boxes

Hands-on training with real-world projects

What does technical training look like when theory meets practice? In this trainee project, our trainees were able to experience exactly that: They developed a special-purpose vehicle for the safe and ergonomic emptying of chip bins for our own production.

In doing so, the young professionals took responsibility for the entire development process. From design through manufacturing and assembly to commissioning, the project was in their hands. Together with their instructors and experienced colleagues, they worked across departments to find a solution to a real-world challenge from everyday production.

This project demonstrates just how practical the training program at Genkinger is. Our trainees gain early experience in developing technical solutions and learn to take responsibility for complex tasks.

Special-purpose vehicle for internal logistics

The vehicle was developed specifically to meet the requirements of our internal logistics operations. Among the particular challenges were the low clearance height under the overhead crane, the use of the elevator between different levels, and the safe handling of asymmetrical loads. In addition, the vehicle had to be reliable and safe to operate on various floor surfaces.

The result is a high-performance and well-thought-out custom solution:

  • Load capacity up to 500 kg
  • Lifting height up to 3,520 mm
  • 360° swivel drive for precise emptying of chip bins
  • Precise drive, lift, and swivel controls for safe and comfortable operation

With the completed vehicle, production now has a tailor-made solution that simplifies workflows and improves ergonomics in everyday work.

Technical Training with Added Value

For our trainees, this project was far more than just a technical assignment. They were able to apply their expertise directly, contribute their own ideas, and gain valuable experience in the development and construction of a custom industrial truck.

Projects like these are an integral part of modern mechanical engineering training. Whether as an industrial mechanic, mechatronics technician, technical product designer, or in a business-oriented apprenticeship—at Genkinger, trainees not only learn theoretical fundamentals but also actively participate in real-world projects.

At the same time, the project demonstrates how important collaboration between young talent and experienced professionals is. Together, they develop solutions that create real added value and are used in practice every day.
